Rainbow In The Coastal Clouds

This Olympic beach photography print captures a golden sunset with a vibrant rainbow in the clouds and a dramatic cloud formation that makes the sun look like a massive shooting star.
 
Beach Photography that Expands the Horizon
 
When creating fine art beach photography, I’m always hoping for great sunsets, but this one really took the cake for being one of the most unique beach sunsets I’ve ever photographed. There was still over a half an hour until the sun would hit the horizon and the clouds would turn orange and pink for beach sunset photography. But with the sun at the exact angle it was at, the clouds along the horizon shone gold, and this “rainbow” formed in the cloud layer above the sun. Technically this type of rainbow is called a 22-degree halo, and it’s formed by the sunlight refracting through millions of hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. 
 
This Washington State nature photographer was thrilled! There’s nothing like beautiful optical phenomenon in the atmosphere framed by a rugged coastline for creating fine art beach photography wall art prints. The foreground of this Pacific Northwest beach photography art shows the details of tiny grains of sand sparkling in the same golden light, as breaking waves roll in. And extending up and to the right from the sun is a uniquely textured cloud that looks like the tail of a comet as the sun plummets to the horizon. All these unique elements come together to create one truly unique Olympic Coast vertical beach photograph.
